How we could work together

Honey bee custom designed stained glass fanlight in Portsmouth

Commissions:

I offer bespoke design and made to measure services, for new leaded stained glass projects. Developing client ideas, I design custom pieces to make lasting unique features for homes and workspaces.

If you would like a piece that captures the essence of where you live, a special time or something that is important to you, or you just simply have a love for, it can most likely be captured in glass.

When you book a meeting with me I will come round and view the space that you want the piece to be installed, and talk through your ideas.

For new windows I carefully measure up and discuss ideas for colour, pattern or theme. I create a full-sized design for you to approve, and make sure you are happy, before the project begins.

Where possible I will use vintage or reclaimed glass from my collection to make the new stained glass. This will add extra character, due to the variations in the pattern and tone, making your bespoke piece truly unique and one of a kind.

I work closely with a carpenter to custom fit the new windows and build in new frameworks as necessary, so everything is precisely and securely fitted into the space.

Repairs:

Before taking out the stained glass, I always take photos of the original pieces to create a record of them, so we can preserve as much of the original character and design as possible.

Along with a local carpenter, we carefully remove the panel to be renovated. Using 6mm plywood, an exact fit for the gap is cut and reusing the beading, we temporarily board up the window to provide security and safety.

In my studio I make two copies of the panel before taking it apart. All reusable glass is cleaned and carefully labelled. All old lead is recycled.

I create a cartoon (drawing) of the design to work onto and begin the build, matching missing or broken glass as closely to the original as possible from my collection of salvaged glass.

After building the design in glass, leading, soldering, cementing and polishing, your finished window is ready to be refitted.

Panels are fitted using beading or putty and clear silicone to ensure the window is weatherproof.

Repair and restoration of window panel, with missing glass replaced around edges of the panel.

The type of work I have done:

I offer panel design, leaded stained glass, copper foiling, fused glass, and traditional leadwork.

I have worked with Victorian and Georgian stained glass, and replace broken pieces of glass, old lead, and cement.

I have installed stained glass in front doors, fan lights, internal reclaimed doors, windows and have made stained glass door number panels, as well as smaller items such as lampshades and decorative pieces.

Your glass is in safe hands with me.
